Rivers LG Election: Fubara Set To swear In New chairmen Today

The Rivers State Government will swear in the 23 chairmen declared winners of Saturday’s Rivers State Local Government Council elections this afternoon (Sunday)

The Action Peoples Party (APP) declared winner in the election for 22 local government area chairman positions ,  While, Uzodinma Nwafor of the Action Alliance (AA) win Etchie LocaL Government Area election according to the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC).

The Chairman of Rivers State Independent National Electoral Commission (RSIEC), Adolphus Enebeli, made the declaration on Sunday in Port Harcourt, the state capital.

He stated that the Action People’s Party (APP) clinched all the 19 councillorship positions in Etche LG.

Giving a breakdown of the councillorship election, the electoral body said the APP raked in 314 seats, the All Progressives Congress (APC) – 1, Boot – 1, Labour Party – 1, Social Democratic Party (SDP) – 1, Young Progressives Party (YPP) – 1.

In addition, the State Government said that the election was over and that the winners will be sworn in today Sunday the 6th of October.

His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS, the Governor of Rivers State, will swear in the newly elected Council Chairmen at the Executive Council Chambers, Government House, Port Harcourt, by 4pm today, Sunday, October 6, 2024,” the announcement stated.

It is anticipated that the newly elected Chairmen would take their seats by, along with one (1) visitor apiece.

Recall that yesterday’s elections were held in the midst of protests, bomb blasts, and shooting in several areas of the state.

Many residents were concerned about the development, which played up to pre-election expectations, particularly because there was no police presence in any of the voting centers.
