Rivers State Sole Administrator Releases Withheld Local Government Allocations
The Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Ibok-Ete Ibas, has announced the release of withheld local government allocations, assuring workers that necessary steps will be taken to ensure the prompt payment of salaries.
During a meeting with Heads of Local Government Administrators in Port Harcourt, Ibas described the gathering as a crucial step toward restoring stability and progress in the state.
Expressing concern over the economic challenges in the Niger Delta, he highlighted the irony of the region’s abundant natural resources juxtaposed with the persistent struggles of its people.
“This situation is unacceptable,” he declared, emphasizing the urgent need for accountability and transformation.
Addressing the delay in salary payments, Ibas reassured affected workers that the withheld funds had been released and that his administration would ensure timely disbursement. However, he stressed that financial accountability would be strictly enforced.
As a retired Vice Admiral and former Chief of Naval Staff, Ibas directed all local government areas to submit their wage bills, along with supporting documentation, through the office of the Head of Service. He warned against financial mismanagement, vowing to scrutinize public fund usage and take decisive action against any irregularities.
“Good governance is not just a slogan; it is a commitment to changing the negative narrative within the next six months,” he affirmed.
Strengthening Security and Collaboration
Ibas also emphasized the need for collaboration with traditional rulers and security agencies to enhance grassroots security.
“You must take the lead in ensuring safety within your domains,” he urged local government administrators.
Clifford Paul, President of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) and Administrator of Port Harcourt Local Government Area, acknowledged the progress made in the state despite political tensions.

He called on all stakeholders to seize this opportunity to rebuild trust and foster unity in Rivers State.
