WASHINGTON: Donald Trump stated that resolving the Ukraine crisis would be his top priority when he assumes office next month, describing the situation in the Middle East as a less difficult” challenge.
In an interview with French magazine Paris Match, recorded on Saturday and released on Wednesday, the US president-elect emphasized the urgency of addressing the conflict between Ukraine and Russia.
“We need to solve the Ukraine problem with Russia,” Trump said. “Both countries are suffering tremendous losses, with hundreds of thousands of soldiers being killed.”
When asked about his main international focus, Trump noted that while the Middle East remains a significant priority, he believes the situation in Ukraine is more pressing.
“The Middle East is a big priority, but I think it’s a less difficult situation than Ukraine with Russia,” he added. “Both of these conflicts need to be resolved, and quickly. Too many people are dying.

Trump was in Paris for the reopening of Notre Dame cathedral after the devastating fire in 2019. During his visit, he met with French President Emmanuel Macron and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
We had a good meeting with President Zelensky,” Trump said. On Tuesday, Zelensky expressed his gratitude for Trump’s “strong resolve” to end the war in Ukraine.
Trump has previously claimed he could resolve the Ukraine conflict in 24 hours. On Sunday, he wrote on his Truth Social platform that there should be an immediate ceasefire, with negotiations beginning soon after.
In the interview, Trump also reiterated his stance on Syria, where he had previously urged the U.S. not to intervene. Referring to the recent escalation, Trump said, “Syria will have to take care of itself. We are not involved in Syria.
