KANO: Former Kano State Governor and leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, KWANKWASO Rabiu Musa, has publicly denied making any statements regarding recent political realignments in Nigeria.
In a post shared via his official X (formerly Twitter) account on Saturday, Kwankwaso dismissed reports suggesting he had commented on current political developments or engagements with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
My attention has been drawn to a statement purportedly stating my position on the recurring political realignments in Nigeria, he wrote.

I wish to categorically state that such statements are false, unfounded, and products of political mischief I have refrained from commenting on contemporary political events and will continue to do so for the time being. I urge the public to rely solely on statements released through my official channels and public handles.
Kwankwaso’s clarification comes in response to media reports claiming that President Bola Tinubu had reached out to him on multiple occasions with assurances and incentives to rejoin the APC—an offer he was reported to have rejected on grounds of principle and ideological differences.
The reports also alleged that Kwankwaso had labelled recent defectors to the APC as betrayers of trust, particularly following the defection of Senator Abdulrahman Kawu (Kano South) and other federal lawmakers from the NNPP.
In a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Abbas Adam Abbas, Kwankwaso reiterated that no such comments were made and emphasized his commitment to staying clear of speculative political narratives.
The backdrop of Kwankwaso’s denial includes a growing wave of defections from the NNPP to the APC in Kano State. Notably, Hon. Kabiru Alhassan Rurum, representing Rano/Bunkure/Kibiya Federal Constituency, and Hon. Abdullahi Ibrahim Rogo, representing Karaye/Rogo Federal Constituency, recently announced their switch to the APC.
Rurum, a former Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly and past gubernatorial aspirant, cited the interests of his constituents as the primary motivation behind his decision.
In a symbolic show of strength, APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje, who is also Kwankwaso’s long-time political rival and former Kano State Governor, was present in the National Assembly chambers during the defections.
He was accompanied by Dr. Mariya Mahmoud Bunkure, Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory, alongside other prominent Kano APC leaders.
