ASABA: Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has launched a renewed offensive against crime and insecurity in the state by donating 31 operational vehicles to the Police and other security agencies. The vehicles will support the newly rebranded Operation Delta Sweep, a joint security initiative aimed at combating rising crime in the state.
At the presentation ceremony on Monday, November 18, in Asaba, Governor Oborevwori handed over the vehicles to the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, highlighting the importance of enhanced security in the state. The fleet includes 23 pickup trucks, 8 Sienna wagons, and 4 previously delivered Hilux vehicles, bringing the total number of vehicles dedicated to the operation to 66. This move is part of the Governor’s broader agenda to ensure the safety of Delta citizens, attract investors, and promote economic growth.

Speaking on the initiative, Oborevwori emphasized that a secure environment is essential for development, noting that his administration’s goal is to reduce crime to its bare minimum. Without security, meaningful development cannot take place, he stated, stressing the need for collaboration between all security agencies to ensure effective operations.
The Governor also reiterated his administration’s commitment to improving peace and security in Delta State, pointing to the success of the joint security task force established in December 2020. Since its inception, the task force has made significant strides in curbing criminal activities such as illegal oil bunkering, kidnapping, armed robbery, and cultism.
In addition, Oborevwori commended the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force, particularly their “Safe School Program” designed to protect educational institutions from terrorism and violent crimes. He also recognized the efforts of the state’s security agencies, including the Nigerian Army, Police Force, Air Force, Navy, DSS, and Civil Defense Corps.
In his remarks, Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun praised Governor Oborevwori for his exceptional support to the police and other security agencies in the state, noting that the donation of the vehicles would significantly enhance operational effectiveness. Egbetokun also expressed appreciation for the Governor’s leadership in managing the recent nationwide protests in Delta State.
Governor Oborevwori concluded by expressing confidence that these efforts would create a safer and more secure environment for Delta residents, especially during the upcoming festive season.
