Senator Ned Nwoko has called on the national leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to uphold the integrity of the party’s Delta North Senatorial primary election, warning against any attempt to alter what he described as the clear mandate given to him by party members.
In a statement issued by his media office in Abuja, the lawmaker maintained that he emerged victorious in the primary election by a wide margin, claiming to have secured overwhelming support across the Delta North Senatorial District.
According to Nwoko, the primary election reflected the will of APC members who participated in the exercise across the district. He stated that available records, including video documentation from various wards, support his claim of victory and demonstrate the extent of support he received from party delegates and members.
The senator argued that any effort to overturn the outcome of the exercise would undermine internal democracy and erode the confidence of party members in the electoral process.
“Party members came out in large numbers to participate in the primaries and freely expressed their choice. Any attempt to disregard their decision would amount to a disservice to democratic principles and the collective will of APC members in Delta North,” he said.
Nwoko urged the APC National Working Committee (NWC) and the party’s national leadership to ensure that the final outcome of the primary reflects the actual votes cast during the exercise.
He also questioned the credibility of alternative figures being circulated in some quarters, insisting that evidence gathered from the wards should be used as the basis for determining the authentic result.
The senator further warned that disregarding the outcome of the primary could have political consequences for the party in Delta North, stressing that members must remain confident that their votes count and that due process will be followed.
Nwoko attributed the support he received to his legislative achievements, grassroots engagement, and advocacy for the creation of Anioma State, a cause he said has gained widespread acceptance among constituents.
He also highlighted his loyalty to the APC, noting that he remained committed to the party’s ideals and growth in Delta State.
The lawmaker rejected what he described as premature declarations of victory by opponents, insisting that only the APC leadership has the constitutional authority to collate, authenticate, and officially declare the results of the primary election.
The authority to determine and announce the final outcome of the primary rests solely with the appropriate organs of the APC. Any unofficial declaration is contrary to party guidelines and should not be taken as the final position of the party,” he stated.
Nwoko therefore appealed to the APC leadership to protect the integrity of the process and ensure that the wishes of party members are respected as the party prepares for the 2027 general elections.
