APC Governors Forum Split, Abiodun, Uzodinma Lead Rival Factions

The leadership crisis within the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), a platform of governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, has deepened following reports of a division among its members.

According to emerging reports, rival factions have now surfaced within the forum, with conflicting claims over its leadership structure and direction ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma, who currently chairs the forum, is said to insist that he remains in charge alongside his deputy, Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani.

However, another bloc within the governors’ group is reportedly aligning behind Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun and Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, who are now being linked with a parallel leadership structure.

Sources within the party say the division has been building gradually, driven by disagreements over internal control, influence within the party hierarchy, and positioning ahead of the next election cycle.

Although no official statement has been issued by either side confirming a formal split, political observers note that the tension reflects broader power struggles within the ruling party’s top echelon.

The Progressive Governors Forum has long served as a key decision-making and coordination platform for APC governors, particularly in shaping national political strategy and supporting federal government policies.

Reports of instability within the forum come at a sensitive time, as governors remain central power brokers in determining party consensus candidates and managing state-level political structures.

There were also conflicting claims earlier suggesting that a meeting of APC governors had produced a leadership change within the forum, allegedly replacing Uzodinma with Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah.

However, the PGF has officially dismissed such reports, describing them as false and misleading.

In a statement attributed to the forum’s Director General, Folorunso Aluko, the PGF said no meeting was held to effect any leadership change and that Uzodinma remains the recognised chairman of the group.

The statement further clarified that the secretariat has no record of any resolution removing or replacing the current leadership.

As political activities intensify ahead of 2027, analysts say the unfolding division may reshape internal alliances within the APC and influence future negotiations over party tickets and national leadership positions.
