Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has dismissed speculation that he is positioning himself for a vice-presidential role, insisting that his political ambition is strictly focused on the presidency ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Amaechi made the clarification during an appearance on Daily Politics on Trust TV on Tuesday, May 19, where he addressed growing rumours about his political intentions within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and ongoing discussions around party consensus arrangements.
I did not buy form to be vice president. Who are all those saying that?” he said, pushing back against claims that he may be considering a running mate position rather than the party’s top ticket.
He stressed that his interest remains firmly on contesting for the presidency, noting that any discussion of a vice-presidential slot was irrelevant to his current political pursuit.
“The interview is about presidency. I didn’t buy form for vice president. If you want to interview a vice president, I can send them in for you,” Amaechi added.
On internal party negotiations, the former Rivers State governor said any consensus arrangement must be reached collectively and transparently among stakeholders.
If the party wants a consensus, let’s have a meeting. If we agree, we do it. If we don’t, we go to primary, he stated.
His comments come amid heightened political positioning within opposition circles as parties begin early alignments and negotiations ahead of the 2027 elections.
