Ovie Omo-Agege has urged Sheriff Oborevwori to stop revisiting the 2023 governorship election contest in Delta State, saying the political battle is over and all members of the All-Progressives Congress should focus on unity ahead of the 2027 elections.
The former Deputy Senate President made the appeal while reacting to remarks reportedly made by Governor Oborevwori during a public lecture in Lagos, where the governor referenced his victory over Omo-Agege in the 2023 Delta governorship race and described how he defeated his opponent despite the latter’s political structure and financial backing.
In a statement, Omo-Agege said there was no need to reopen old political rivalries, especially now that both leaders belong to the same political family under the APC. He stressed that what the party needs in Delta State is reconciliation and internal cohesion rather than public exchanges that could deepen divisions.
According to him, if they were still in opposing parties, he would have considered responding strongly to the governor’s comments. However, he said the current political reality requires leaders to place collective party interest above personal grievances.
Omo-Agege noted that the 2023 governorship election had been conclusively settled by the courts, with the Supreme Court affirming Oborevwori’s victory. He said he accepted the judgment as a democrat and had already congratulated the governor after the election, adding that the matter should now remain in the past.
He also acknowledged his own political performance in the election, saying he remained proud of the over 240,000 votes he secured in four local government areas of Delta Central. He thanked his supporters across the state and assured them that he remains committed to serving the people.
The former senator said that since May 29, 2023, he has focused on strengthening the APC in Delta State and ensuring the party remains united. He called on Governor Oborevwori, as the leader of the APC in the state, to join hands with other stakeholders to promote healing, inclusion and mutual respect.
Omo-Agege warned that any action capable of dividing the party could hurt its chances in the 2027 general elections, especially its efforts to secure victory for Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other APC candidates across Delta State.
He added that only a united party structure would be strong enough to deliver electoral success at all levels, from the presidency to legislative seats, in the next election cycle.
