Uzodimma Releases N300m Support Fund for Imo Law Students and Returnees from South Africa

OWERRE: Governor Hope Uzodimma has approved the immediate release of ₦300 million support Imo State indigenes studying in the Nigerian Law School and citizens who recently returned from South Africa.

The intervention is part of what the Imo State Government describes as its “Shared Prosperity” welfare agenda aimed at cushioning economic hardship and supporting vulnerable citizens.

According to the state government:

  • 250 returnees from South Africa will receive ₦1 million each
  • 100 Imo Law School students will receive ₦500,000 each

The funds are intended to help beneficiaries settle down, recover, and manage rising living costs in Nigeria.

Speaking through the Commissioner for Information, Declan Emelumba, the government said the decision was driven by empathy for citizens facing difficult circumstances abroad and students struggling with inflation at home.

He explained that many of the returnees had experienced trauma and needed urgent reintegration support, while law students had appealed for financial assistance due to the high cost of living.

The administration noted that this is not the first time it has supported law students in the state, adding that many are already on government scholarship schemes.

Officials say the latest intervention reinforces Uzodimma’s image as a “compassionate leader” committed to both infrastructure development and human capital support.

The government emphasized that the support for returnees is a re-integration fund, designed to help them restart life in Nigeria with reduced financial pressure and better social stability.
