ABUJA: Senator Shehu Buba, who represents Bauchi South in the National Assembly, has denied allegations linking him to bandit leaders and the sponsorship of criminal activities in northern Nigeria.
The allegations gained public attention after videos and claims circulated online purporting to show the senator’s association with individuals described as bandit kingpins. The reports triggered calls for security agencies, including the Department of State Services, to investigate the matter.
In a statement responding to the controversy, Buba dismissed the allegations as fabricated and described them as part of a campaign of disinformation aimed at damaging his reputation. He maintained that the videos and other materials being circulated did not provide credible evidence of any involvement in banditry or terrorism.
The senator also indicated that he had taken legal steps in response to what he called malicious and misleading claims.
Independent reviews of some of the viral content have reportedly questioned the authenticity and interpretation of the evidence used to link Buba to criminal groups. However, the allegations have continued to generate public debate amid growing concerns over insecurity and alleged political connections to armed groups in parts of northern Nigeria.
