Umahi Urges Peter Obi to Collaborate with Tinubu, Highlights Infrastructure Gains in South-East

ABUJA: Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, has called on Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to join South-East governors in supporting President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

In a feature interview for an upcoming State House documentary commemorating President Tinubu’s second year in office, Umahi emphasized the importance of unity among leaders, regardless of political differences.

Leadership is not about self, it’s about the people,” Umahi said, as quoted by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga.

If someone else is already doing what you would have done for your people, support them. I call on my brother, His Excellency Peter Obi, to join us and work with Mr. President.

Umahi said the South-East is beginning to enjoy significant federal attention under Tinubu’s leadership, pointing to a surge in infrastructure development across the region.

Highlighting the progress of key projects, Umahi announced that tolling will begin in December on Section 1 of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, a 47.47-kilometre stretch from Ahmadu Bello Way to Eleko Junction, with over 80% of the section already completed. He projected a 10-year return on investment for the ambitious project.

Umahi also cited other major developments under Tinubu’s administration, including the ongoing construction of the Second Niger Bridge and major roads like the Port HarcourtEnugu and Enugu–Onitsha highways.

Before, the Southeast lacked federal presence. But today, we are seeing real projects. The Second Niger Bridge alone reflects the President’s commitment to fairness across all regions, he noted.

According to Umahi, Lagos-Calabar coastal road  Highway will serve as more than just a road; it will function as an economic corridor fostering national growth and regional integration.

The Igbo man is enterprising and blessed with God-given wisdom. What Ndi Igbo seek is fairness Nigeria that treats every zone equally, he said, adding that the highway’s design includes solar-powered lighting and CCTV for enhanced safety and innovation.
