Governor Oborevwori Honored for Inclusive Leadership by Non-Indigenous Communities in Delta State

ASABA: The recent recognition of Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, by non-indigenous residents of the state highlights his commitment to inclusive governance and unity. This accolade reflects widespread admiration for his leadership, which embraces all ethnic groups, ensuring that every resident, regardless of their origins, benefits from the government’s policies and programs.

Governor Oborevwori’s administration is dedicated to promoting peace, development, and equal opportunities for both indigenes and non-indigenes. Through his focus on inclusivity, he has strengthened social cohesion and encouraged greater economic participation across Delta’s diverse communities.

The recognition from non-indigenous groups stands as a testament to his efforts in fostering an environment where all residents feel valued, empowered, and represented in governance.

This development underscores the importance of inclusive policies in a multi-ethnic society like Delta State, reaffirming the crucial role of leadership in uniting people for sustainable development.

On Wednesday, a delegation of non-indigenes in the state expressed their confidence in Governor Sheriff Oborevwori by commending his compassionate leadership and the significant strides made by his administration over the past two years.

The group also awarded him the “Most All-Inclusive Governor Award 2025” in recognition of his outstanding contributions to ensuring equal opportunities for all residents of Delta State.

Speaking on behalf of non-indigenous community leaders during a solidarity visit to the Governor at Government House, Asaba, Prof. Pius Chinwuba Ike praised the Governor for his exceptional work in areas such as infrastructure, human capital development, education, healthcare, security, and the general welfare of all Deltans.

He highlighted that the Governor’s accomplishments had earned him numerous prestigious awards, including the 2024 Governor of the Year by THISDAY/Arise Television, Silverbird Governor of the Year 2023, and the $400,000 Bill and Melinda Gates Award for Infrastructure in Primary Healthcare.

Prof. Ike said: “We, the 150 leaders of the non-indigene community in Delta State, representing various ethnic groups including the Igbo, Hausa, Fulani, South-South States, Yoruba, and Middle Belt, are here today to express our gratitude and admiration for your leadership.

Since you assumed office nearly two years ago, we have witnessed significant progress in areas crucial to the development of the state.”

He further added, “We believe that leadership is not just about policies and projects, but about compassion, fairness, and inclusivity.

Your leadership has demonstrated that governance is truly about people, regardless of their origin. For this reason, we are here today to celebrate your exemplary service to Delta State.”

In response, Governor Oborevwori expressed his sincere gratitude for the solidarity visit and reiterated his administration’s dedication to fostering an environment conducive to growth, development, and peaceful coexistence. He emphasized that every resident in Delta, regardless of their ethnic or geographical background, should feel welcomed and empowered to succeed.

Delta State, with its rich diversity and resilience, has always been a beacon of hope and opportunity for all,” the Governor remarked. “I am grateful to each and every one of you for making Delta your home and contributing to the prosperity of our state. Your contributions to our economy, culture, and social fabric are invaluable.”

Governor Oborevwori also recalled that during his campaign, many non-indigenous residents had pledged their support for his candidacy.

He appealed for the same love and support to be extended to the government at the national level, stressing the importance of national unity for the country’s progress.

“There is hope for Nigeria,” the Governor asserted. “As the national economy begins to recover, it is essential that we all remain united and support the central government. If the nation thrives, the sub-nationals will benefit as well.”

The Delta State House of Assembly, on Wednesday, passed a vote of implicit confidence in Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, following a motion by the Majority Leader, Hon. Emeka Nwaobi. During plenary, presided over by Speaker Rt. Hon.

Emomotimi Guwor, the Speaker congratulated Governor Oborevwori for his remarkable achievements in governance and highlighted that the progress seen across the state was unprecedented.

The Speaker praised the Governor’s awards as proof of his outstanding leadership and called for continued efforts in serving the people of Delta.

On Saturday, Governor Oborevwori convened a meeting with stakeholders from Aladja and Ogbe-Ijoh communities to address the long-standing land dispute. Held at the Governor’s Osubi residence, the meeting resulted in both parties agreeing to pursue peace and adhere to the mutually accepted terms of settlement.

The Governor commended the communities for their willingness to resolve the conflict and assured them that his administration would continue to support peaceful coexistence and development.

As part of his commitment to fostering peace, Governor Oborevwori also secured approval from the State Executive Council (EXCO) for the construction of the Aladja/Ogbe-Ijoh road to improve mobility between the two communities.

On Tuesday, Governor Oborevwori received the Commission of Inquiry’s report on the long-standing land and kingship dispute in Ogwashi-Uku Kingdom, located in Aniocha South Local Government Area.

The Governor assured the people of Ogwashi-Uku and surrounding communities that the findings would be thoroughly reviewed, and a White Paper would be issued promptly. He emphasized that the report would provide critical insights into resolving the crisis and contributing to sustainable peace and security in the region and the entire state.

He commended the Chairman of the Commission, Justice Ejiro Emudainohwo, and other members for their dedication and hard work, reaffirming the government’s commitment to peacebuilding and effective governance
