Elon Musk has intensified his criticism of French judicial authorities investigating alleged abuses linked to his social media platform, X.
French prosecutors opened an investigation in January 2025 over allegations that the platform was used to interfere in French politics. Since then, the inquiry has reportedly expanded to include allegations involving Holocaust denial, the spread of sexual deepfakes and possible complicity in the distribution of child sexual abuse material.
Reacting to reports about the latest phase of the investigation, Musk posted a mocking statement in French on Friday, ridiculing the prosecutors handling the case.
The billionaire businessman had earlier described French magistrates as “mentally retarded after authorities reportedly carried out a raid on X’s Paris office in February.
French authorities recently summoned Musk and former X chief executive Linda Yaccarino for an informal interview as part of the ongoing investigation, but reports indicated that Musk did not respond to the summons.
At the time of the Paris office raid, X condemned the action, describing it as politically motivated and denying any wrongdoing.
The investigation adds to mounting regulatory and legal pressure facing Musk and X in Europe, where authorities have increasingly scrutinized online platforms over content moderation, misinformation and illegal material.
Musk, who also leads Tesla and SpaceX, has repeatedly positioned himself as a defender of free speech, while critics argue that reduced moderation policies on X have contributed to the spread of harmful content.
