ASABA: The Delta State chapter of the People Democratic Party (PDP) has warned of imminent legal action against individuals who recently defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) accusing them of attempting to forge and backdate resignation letters.
The PDP State Chairman, Peter Mrakpor, described the alleged act as fraudulent and a violation of due process. He insisted that none of the defectors followed the proper channel of submitting resignation letters to their respective ward structures before leaving the party.
According to Mrakpor, the party is prepared to take legal steps against anyone found culpable in the alleged scheme, stressing that such actions undermine democratic norms. The attempt to forge and backdate resignation letters is not only illegal but a desperate move that will fail.
None of those who defected submitted resignation letters to their wards before the mass defection,he stated.

Despite the recent defections, the PDP chairman maintained that the party remains united and structurally sound across Delta State.
The controversy comes amid an ongoing dispute over the PDP state secretariat in Asaba. The opposition party recently demanded that the APC state chairman, Solomon Areyinka, vacate the premises immediately.
The PDP accused the Delta State Government of supporting what it described as the illegal occupation of its secretariat, located along WAEC Road, off Mariam Babangida Way. The party noted that the property’s Certificate of Occupancy remains in its name and has not been revoked.
Further allegations suggest that some defectors who moved to the APC as far back as April 2025 are still linked to the party’s bank accounts.
The PDP Publicity Secretary, Kingsley Akpos Oturubo, emphasized that the secretariat predates the formation of the APC and questioned why the ruling party would occupy a second office despite already having a state secretariat on Anwai Road.
The PDP also linked the developments to political maneuvering ahead of the 2027 elections, referencing Nyesom Wike and his vow to reclaim the party’s mandate.
Describing the situation as a threat to democratic order, the party called on security agencies to intervene and warned that both the APC leadership and the state government would be held responsible for any breakdown of law and order.
The PDP urged its members to remain calm while reaffirming its commitment to pursue all legal avenues to reclaim its assets and defend its structure in Delta State.
