LAGOS: PDP Chieftain Dele Momodu Slams President Tinubu’s State of Emergency in Rivers, Calls It ‘Anti-Democratic’

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Dele Momodu, has strongly criticized President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State, labeling the move as “anti-democratic.”

On March 18, President Tinubu suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu, and the Rivers State House of Assembly for six months, citing the ongoing political crisis in the oil-rich state. However, Momodu condemned the decision during an interview on Channels Television on March 31.

I find it very unfortunate, Momodu said.“I know President Tinubu very well. Although we’ve never been in the same party, we were together in exile, and he fought tirelessly for democracy. Many of us, his former comrades, are embarrassed by what is happening now. We have a pro-democracy leader in power, yet we are witnessing actions worse than dictatorship.

Appealing directly to the President, he urged, “Please don’t kill democracy in Nigeria. Those who truly care about him should tell him this.

I have never asked him for anything, but I admire his past contributions. Unfortunately, that legacy is now at risk.

Momodu also accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of intimidating the opposition, warning President Tinubu to be cautious.

“I’m saying this openly to millions of Nigerians people are deceiving President Tinubu, and he should not let them mislead him.

He should focus on doing his job. The only true path to securing a second term is through good governance, not intimidation.”
