LAGOS: Former presidential aspirant and Serving Overseer of the Citadel Global Community Church (CGCC), Tunde Bakare has strongly criticised President Bola Tinubu, accusing him of undermining Nigeria’s democracy by exerting undue influence over the National Assembly.
In a state of the nation address delivered on Sunday at his church in Lagos, Bakare condemned what he described as the growing erosion of legislative independence under the current administration.
The National Assembly has become an extension of the executive, rubber-stamping the whims and caprices of the presidency, Bakare said. “This undermines the very foundation of our democracy, the principle of separation of powers.

He cautioned that the country is heading down a dangerous path. “To the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, under whose brand of politics legislative oversight is collapsing, I say: Nigeria is too delicate for this kind of politics.
Referring to Tinubu’s popular political slogan “emi lo kan” (it’s my turn), Bakare said, “If this state capture was what you meant, then it is a tragic anti-climax that will only backfire.
Mr. President, please reflect on this: ‘No man is wise or good enough to be trusted with unlimited power. Stop playing God.
Bakare further alleged that President Tinubu’s influence has turned the National Assembly into a center of “legislative rascality, warning that such a trajectory poses an existential threat to Nigeria’s democratic framework.
