Why Are Investors Suddenly Turning to Abia? Governor Otti’s Reform Agenda Sparks Growing Confidence

Abia State’s ongoing reforms under Governor Alex Otti are beginning to attract increased investor interest and restore public confidence, according to the Governor’s Special Adviser on Investment Promotion and Public-Private Partnerships, Jerome Green-Amakwe.

Speaking in a statement issued in Umuahia to mark Nigeria’s Democracy Day celebration, Green-Amakwe said the state is experiencing a new era defined by accountability, development, and people-oriented governance, adding that residents now have renewed optimism about the future.

According to him, Democracy Day carries a special significance for Abians because it symbolizes the emergence of responsible leadership and a fresh chapter focused on transparency and service delivery.

#For Abians, this year’s celebration represents renewal and the beginning of a new era anchored on accountability, development and service to the people,” he stated.

Green-Amakwe noted that before 2023, Abia struggled with numerous developmental challenges, including poor infrastructure, inadequate public services, and sluggish economic growth, which fueled calls for a change in leadership.

He said the election of Governor Alex Otti and his deputy, Ikechukwu Emetu, marked a turning point in the state’s political and economic history, ushering in reforms aimed at rebuilding public trust and accelerating development.

According to the governor’s aide, the administration has since implemented policies and projects designed to improve governance, stimulate economic growth, and create an environment capable of attracting local and foreign investments.

He also paid tribute to supporters, stakeholders, and grassroots mobilisers who worked tirelessly before the 2023 elections, saying their determination laid the foundation for what has evolved into a transformative movement.

“The journey to victory was neither accidental nor easy. Dedicated supporters and stakeholders remained steadfast in their belief that a better Abia was possible, and their resilience became the foundation for the change the state is witnessing today,” he said.

Green-Amakwe disclosed that the campaign structure was headed by the late Nnanna Ngwu, with Acho Obioma serving as Director-General, while coordinators across the state’s senatorial districts and local government areas mobilised support for the administration’s vision.

He also acknowledged the contributions of several prominent supporters, including Prince Uzor Nwachukwu, Mike Akpara, retired Navy Captain McDonald Uba, Ishmael Onuoha, Prince Okey Kanu, Ogbonna Okereke, Victor Ikeji, Magdalene Ugoanusi, Uloaku Iheanacho, Dike Nwankwo, Uche Nwosu, Ferdinand Ekeoma, Ottah Kalu, Dr. Nwokocha Eze, Ceekay Igara, Chris Anukuru, and retired Colonel Ezichi Kalu, among others.

The Special Adviser attributed the continuity of reforms to Governor Otti’s strategic and disciplined leadership style, noting that his approach has strengthened confidence in governance and reinforced the belief that effective public policies can drive sustainable development.

He further described Democracy Day as an opportunity to recognize the individuals and groups whose efforts contributed to Abia’s current progress, emphasizing that the achievements recorded by the state are a collective success shared by government officials, stakeholders, and residents.

While congratulating Governor Otti, Deputy Governor Ikechukwu Emetu, members of the administration, supporters, and the people of Abia State, Green-Amakwe called for continued commitment to unity, transparency, and development.

He expressed optimism that the ongoing reforms would be sustained, positioning Abia as one of Nigeria’s emerging destinations for investment and economic growth.
