Gov. AbdulRazaq Endorses Yahaya Seriki as Preferred Successor in Kwara

ILORIN: Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has endorsed Ambassador Abdulfatai Yahaya Seriki as his preferred successor ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Kwara State.

The endorsement came ahead of the governorship primaries of the All Progressives Congress scheduled for Wednesday.

In a statement personally issued to journalists in Ilorin on Tuesday, AbdulRazaq said the decision followed wide consultations with party leaders and stakeholders across the state.

According to the governor, Yahaya Seriki possesses the leadership qualities needed to sustain the administration’s achievements and strengthen the party’s hold on the state.

He described the APC chieftain as a young, pro-people, astute and broad-minded” political mobiliser with significant investments and goodwill across Kwara State.

I have no doubt about his capacity and that his choice is appropriate for the people of our state at this time, the governor stated.

AbdulRazaq, however, clarified that the endorsement does not prevent other aspirants from participating in the primary election.

He urged party members and leaders to support Seriki’s emergence in the interest of party unity, cohesion and continuity.

The governor also noted that the endorsement should not be interpreted as a rejection of other aspirants, many of whom he described as qualified and capable individuals.

According to him, the governorship race involves several competent contenders, but only one candidate can eventually emerge as the party’s flag bearer.

AbdulRazaq further commended the aspirants for their discipline and commitment to building on the achievements recorded by his administration over the past seven years.

The development is expected to shape political alignments within the Kwara APC ahead of the party’s governorship primary and the 2027 general election.
