Umunede Man, Cornelius Uyanwanne, Dies After Alleged Workplace Dispute at Asaba International Airport

ASABA: Cornelius Uyanwanne, a native of Idumu Ile, Umunede, in Ika North-East Local Government Area of Delta State, has died following an alleged incident involving a 70-year-old man at Asaba International Airport.

Information reaching RapidoSpace News indicates that the incident occurred on Sunday, October 18, 2026, following a disagreement over a vacant position at their workplace.

Cornelius, who worked at Asaba International Airport in Asaba, was reportedly interested in the position alongside another prospective candidate. The disagreement allegedly escalated after he declined to withdraw his interest in the opportunity.

According to accounts received by RapidoSpace News, the elderly man was supporting the other aspirant and had allegedly asked Cornelius to step aside in favour of his preferred candidate.

The dispute reportedly intensified when Cornelius arrived at work on Sunday. During the ensuing confrontation, the 70-year-old man was alleged to have driven his vehicle into him.

Cornelius was subsequently taken to a hospital for medical attention but died a few hours later.

The circumstances surrounding the incident, including the precise sequence of events and the motive behind the alleged confrontation, have yet to be independently established.

The tragedy has been compounded by the circumstances surrounding Cornelius’s family.

Information reaching RapidoSpace News indicates that he had been preparing for his mother’s burial, scheduled for December 2026.

His death has therefore left his family facing another painful loss at a time when they were already making arrangements to lay their mother to rest.

For his relatives and the wider Idumu Ile community in Umunede, the news has brought an additional burden of grief, as the family must now contend with the loss of Cornelius amid preparations for the forthcoming burial.

As of the time of filing this report, information available to RapidoSpace News indicated that Cornelius’s body had been deposited in a mortuary, while the 70-year-old man was said to be in police custody.

However, the publication has not independently confirmed the suspect’s detention or obtained an official police statement detailing the incident.

The incident has drawn attention to the potentially devastating consequences of unresolved workplace disagreements, particularly those involving promotions and competition for vacant positions.

Although disagreements over career advancement can arise in professional environments, they should be addressed through dialogue, established workplace procedures and lawful channels.

No employment opportunity should become a reason for threats, intimidation or violence.

RapidoSpace News extends its condolences to the family of Cornelius Uyanwanne and the people of Idumu Ile, Umunede, as they mourn his death.

The publication will provide further updates as verified information becomes available.
