ASABA: Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has approved the appointment of Mr. Emasogbe Matthew Oghene as Auditor-General (State), while also constituting new Governing Councils for three state-owned universities.
The appointments are part of the state government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen public sector administration, institutional oversight and governance across Delta State’s tertiary education system.
The three universities whose Governing Councils have been constituted are University of Delta, Agbor, Dennis Osadebay University and Southern Delta University.
The newly appointed Auditor-General and members of the university governing councils are expected to be formally sworn in and inaugurated during a ceremony scheduled to hold at the Delta State Government House, Asaba.
Governor Oborevwori approved the appointment of Emasogbe Matthew Oghene as Auditor-General (State), a position that carries responsibility for overseeing the auditing of public finances and promoting accountability within the state’s financial administration.
The appointment comes as the administration continues to emphasise effective management of public resources and stronger institutional oversight.
The Auditor-General’s office plays an important role in examining government accounts and financial operations, with its work contributing to transparency and accountability in the management of public funds.
For the University of Delta, Agbor, Governor Oborevwori approved the appointment of Prof. Victor Peretomode as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council.

- Dr. Roland Oritsejafor
- Mrs. Joy Enwa
- Prof. Ben Oghojafor
- Prof. Patrick Oromareghake
The council is expected to provide strategic direction for the institution and work with the university management to promote academic standards, effective administration and sustainable development.
At Dennis Osadebay University, Prof. Patrick Muoboghare has been appointed Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council.
The other members are Dr. Christopher Onyemenam, Chief Elmina V. Namah, Prof. Jacob Oboreh, Dr. Josephine Konyeme, Dr. Philomena Imonivewerha and Prof. Rowell Ubogu.
The Governing Council will be responsible for providing broad policy direction and exercising oversight on the affairs of the institution in line with its mandate.
For Southern Delta University, Chief Godson Echegile will serve as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman.
Other members of the council are Prof. Benedict Binebai, Surv. Mrs. Felicia Omatsola, Prof. Stella Chiemeke, Dr. Tosan Luck Popo, Prof. William Ehwarieme and Prof. Regina Arisi.
The constitution of the council provides the university with a governing structure expected to support effective decision-making, accountability and institutional development.
According to a statement signed by the Secretary to the Delta State Government, Dr. Kingsley Eze Emu, the newly appointed Auditor-General and members of the three university Governing Councils will be sworn in and inaugurated on Tuesday, September 22, 2026.
The ceremony will take place at Unity Hall, Government House, Asaba, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
The statement added that all appointees and invited guests are expected to be seated by 9:30 a.m.
The development further strengthens the administrative and governance framework of Delta State, particularly in the areas of public financial oversight and tertiary education.
With the new appointments, attention will now turn to the ability of the Auditor-General and the university governing councils to effectively discharge their responsibilities and contribute to improved accountability, institutional stability and development across the state.
