ABUJA: President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu as Nigeria’s new Minister of Foreign Affairs, following the resignation of Yusuf Tuggar.
Tuggar stepped down from the role to pursue his governorship ambition in Bauchi State ahead of the 2027 elections.
In a related move, Tinubu also named Sola Enikanolaiye as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs. Prior to his appointment, Enikanolaiye served as Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and International Relations.
The announcement was made on Wednesday by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga.
Odumegwu-Ojukwu, who was previously Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, is expected to lead Nigeria’s diplomatic engagements at a higher level following her elevation.
Enikanolaiye brings over three decades of experience in Nigeria’s foreign service, having served as Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and held diplomatic postings in countries including Ethiopia, Serbia, Canada, United Kingdom, and India.
According to the presidency, the appointments are part of ongoing efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s foreign policy framework, enhance efficiency, and deepen international partnerships.
Tinubu urged the new appointees to prioritise Nigeria’s national interest, expand economic diplomacy, promote regional stability, and ensure the welfare of Nigerians in the diaspora.
