FLOODING: Tinubu Visit Borno To Evaluate Impacts

BORNO STATE: President Bola Tinubu has arrived in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, to commiserate with the government and people of the state over the recent flood disaster.

Tinubu who flew down from London on Sunday night, will assess how the water might have affect public buildings such as schools, hospitals, marketplaces, and private homes and establishments

According to the United Nations Human Rights Refugee Council and Maiduguri Metropolitan Council residents, the town experienced its worst flooding in 30 years as the Alau Dam, an important component of infrastructure meant to control water flow and supply drinking and irrigation water overflowed after heavy rainfall. The National Emergency Management Agency stated that nearly half of Maiduguri was submerged by water

Following the Thursday collapse of the Alau dam on the Ngadda River, 20 km south of Maiduguri, more than 23,000 houses have been affected by the high waters rise, according to the National Emergency Management Authority (NEMA).

The fast-moving waters destroyed major city locations, including the state secretariat, post office, cemetery, University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, palace of Shehu of Borno, Umar Ibn Garbai El-Kanemi, hospitals, and correctional center facility. As of Wednesday, we have learnt that the water had receded.

Before Tinubu’s visit, he has expressed his grave concerns on the recent flooding and directed appropriate government agencies to accelerate rescue operations. In addition, He also called for the immediate evacuation of residents in communities overtaken by floods
