ABUJA: Supporters of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan stormed the National Assembly complex on Wednesday, protesting ahead of a Senate ethics probe into her alleged refusal to comply with Senate rules.
The probe, led by Senator Neda Imaseun, follows a unanimous vote in response to her heated outburst in the chamber.
As the protesters gathered, security forces fired tear gas to disperse them, but they regrouped, standing their ground despite the barricade imposed by security agencies.
The demonstrators accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of attempting to silence and malign women in politics, calling on President Bola Tinubu to intervene.
They emphasized that allegations of sexual misconduct should be treated as human rights issues rather than political tools for suppression.
The ongoing investigation is expected to shed light on the controversy surrounding Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, with many closely watching how the Senate will handle the case.
