Pop superstar Shakira, who recently mesmerized the globe with her World Cup mega hit song “Dai Dai”, and electrifying performance, has opened up on why she picked Nigerian Afrobeats super star Burna Boy for the official 2026 FIFA World Cup song, among all the super stars worldwide.
The Colombian born multiple awards winning super star said she had a vision and determination to have the Nigerian Grammy award winning African giant on the song right from onset.
Speaking on the “Capital Evening Show” with Jimmy Hill, in the US, Shakira explained that she planned to have a powerful male voice to feature and complement her in the track, “Dai Dai,” and to her Burna Boy was the best choice for the role.
“I have always loved Burna. I was obsessed with getting him on the track, so I called him,” she said.
Shakira later acknowledged that working with the Burna Boy was a memorable experience, stressing that the Nigerian super star was her perfect and excellent choice which no one else would have been better fun the song.
I couldn’t imagine anybody else on it, actually, she said.
Meanwhile, since the global release, “Dai Dai”, it has skyrocketed a stunning global success. It has knockout the feats and has recorded the first song to top of Spotify’s Global Music Video Chart. The collaboration has tremendously blown up Burna Boy to become the first African artiste to reach number one on the Apple Music Global Top Songs chart.
The World Cup official song has mightily elevated Burna Boy with a new pacesetting record of the highest monthly listeners by an African artiste, as the song reached over 53 million on Spotify and 600 million on YouTube Music.
In addition, the Rivers State-born recording artiste whose real names are Damini Ogulu, also hit history records as the first African artiste to perform at the FIFA World Cup Final opening and Halftime Shows
