PORTHARCOURT: The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has called for stronger collaboration among stakeholders as part of efforts to accelerate sustainable development and improve service delivery across the Niger Delta region.
The Commission made the call during the 2026 Partners for Sustainable Development (PSD) Conference, which commenced with a pre-conference stakeholders’ meeting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The meeting, held at J’s Signature Hotel, was themed “Synergy for Transformation” and provided a platform for stakeholders to examine development challenges in the Niger Delta and explore ways of strengthening cooperation among relevant institutions.
Speaking at the event, NDDC Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Chief Samuel Ogbuku, PhD, urged stakeholders to participate actively in the discussions and contribute practical ideas capable of improving the Commission’s operations and service delivery.
Ogbuku noted that the progress achieved by the NDDC over the years could not be attributed to the Commission alone, stressing that stakeholders had played important roles in advancing development initiatives across the region.
He disclosed that the 2026 PSD Conference would introduce a stakeholding document to serve as a governance framework for the NDDC.
According to him, the document would be reviewed by stakeholders, whose recommendations would help strengthen the Commission’s operations and enable it to respond more effectively to the development needs of the Niger Delta.
Also speaking, the Director of Community and Rural Development, Engr. Theophilus Allagoa, said the engagement would focus on addressing overlapping mandates among government agencies.
He explained that improved coordination would help prevent duplication of projects, reduce unnecessary expenditure and ensure that development resources are used more efficiently.
Allagoa therefore urged stakeholders to deepen collaboration and work towards establishing a unified policy framework and comprehensive development plan for the Niger Delta.
The NDDC said the initiative reflects its commitment to building stronger partnerships and promoting coordinated, sustainable development throughout the region.
