ABUJA: Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has officially declared her intention to seek re-election for a second term in the Senate, citing sustained pressure and endorsements from constituents across Kogi Central.
Her announcement was made during the Kogi Central stakeholders’ meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), marking the culmination of months of consultations and growing grassroots mobilization within the senatorial district.
According to a statement from her media office, Akpoti-Uduaghan said her decision followed repeated appeals from supporters and encouragement from her family.
After due consultations and encouragement from my husband, I have accepted your calls to re-contest for my second term as your senator,” she said.
Her declaration was met with widespread endorsements from party faithful and community leaders, signalling what observers describe as a consolidation of her political base ahead of the 2027 elections.
Beyond her re-election bid, the senator used the platform to call for unity within the PDP, urging members to resolve internal differences and strengthen the party’s cohesion.
“This is the time to bring everyone back home. We must reconcile with those who may have had one issue or another, for the betterment of our party and the success of future elections, she stated.
The development positions Akpoti-Uduaghan among early entrants in the 2027 political race, as political actors begin to realign and consolidate support across party structures.
Her call for reconciliation reflects broader concerns within the PDP about internal divisions, as stakeholders seek to present a stronger, united front in upcoming elections.
With endorsements mounting at the grassroots level, her campaign is expected to focus on maintaining party unity while expanding her support base across the five local government areas of Kogi Central.
