LAGOS:Omowunmi, widow of the late singer and rapper, Ilerioluwa Aloba aka Mohbad, has expressed readiness to conduct a Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) test to determine the paternity of their only son, Liam.
In the application filed by the legal team to Joseph, the family sought an order to serve Wunmi by posting all the originating processes and other processes in the suit on the last-known address of the respondent.
Under the terms of the settlement, the DNA test will be conducted at two recognized and accredited medical facilities within Lagos State or, if necessary, at an approved hospital outside the state. Omowunmi has consented to participate in the DNA testing alongside her son, Master Liam Aloba. Joseph Aloba, Mohbad’s father, has agreed to cover all costs associated with the test, including fees for the testing facility, sample collection, and any necessary legal or administrative expenses.
The court further instructed that the DNA test take place at a mutually agreed-upon facility within Nigeria to ensure accuracy and impartiality. To enhance the credibility of the procedure, the court appointed designated officers to oversee the testing process. Also, both parties will be responsible for their individual legal costs, while Joseph Aloba will bear the expenses related to the DNA test itself.

Mohbad, who died at the age of 27, left behind unanswered questions surrounding the circumstances of his death, which sparked widespread controversy on social media. Formerly signed to Marlian Music, a label owned by artist Naira Marley, Mohbad left the label in February 2022. Following his death, the Lagos State Police Command launched a 13-member special investigation team on September 18, 2023, to look into the case.
The investigation gained further attention with the arrest of Naira Marley and Lagos socialite Balogun Eletu, known as Sam Larry, among others. Authorities exhumed Mohbad’s body on September 21, 2023, to conduct an autopsy and determine the cause of death.
Concerns over the investigation process have since been raised by observers from various international groups, who argue that certain procedures may hinder the pursuit of justice.
In a statement, the observers cited their commitment to transparency, fairness, and accountability and expressed concerns about delays and alleged attempts to suppress evidence. They noted that during the cross-examination of Omowunmi, some legal representatives were interrupted and restricted from fully gathering information.
The observers are closely monitoring the ongoing court proceedings at Ikorodu, Lagos State, calling for an impartial inquest that will ensure truth and justice in Mohbad’s case.
