Man Sentenced to Life Imprisonment for Killing Two Nigerian Security Guards in Canada

A Canadian court has sentenced a 31-year-old man, Kensworth Alton Francis, to life imprisonment for the fatal shooting of two Nigerian men, Tosin Amos-Arowoshegbe and Chibueze Momah, at a nightclub in Ontario, Canada.

The victims, aged 25 and 22 respectively, were working as security guards at the ATL Lounge in Vaughan, north of Toronto, when they were shot dead during a violent incident that occurred in the early hours of July 23, 2022.

According to investigators, a fight broke out inside the nightclub located near Highway 7 and Keele Street before gunfire erupted at about 3:30 a.m. The shooting claimed the lives of Amos-Arowoshegbe and Momah, while a 20-year-old woman sustained serious injuries but survived.

The tragic incident triggered a major cross-border investigation involving the York Regional Police Homicide Unit, the U.S. Marshals Service and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). Authorities subsequently issued a Canada-wide warrant for Francis, who fled after the attack.

Nearly two years after the killings, Francis was tracked down and arrested by the U.S. Marshals Service in Hartford, Connecticut, on March 24, 2024. Following his arrest, he was extradited to Canada to face prosecution in York Region.

After a lengthy trial, a jury found Francis guilty of two counts of first-degree murder and one count of unlawfully causing bodily harm.

At the Ontario Court of Justice in Newmarket on Friday, June 19, 2026, the judge handed down two life sentences for the murder convictions. Under Canadian law, Francis will not be eligible for parole for 25 years.

In addition to the life terms, the court imposed an eight-year prison sentence for unlawfully causing bodily harm to the female victim injured during the shooting. All sentences are to run concurrently.

The conviction brings some measure of closure to the families of Tosin Amos-Arowoshegbe and Chibueze Momah, whose deaths shocked members of the Nigerian community in Canada and sparked calls for justice.

The case also highlighted the cooperation between Canadian and American law enforcement agencies, which ultimately led to the arrest and successful prosecution of the suspect.
