Several users have reported broken screens on Apple’s newly launched iPhone Duo, raising early questions about the durability of the company’s first foldable smartphone.
The reports emerged on Reddit on Friday, October 23, 2026, the same day the device officially went on sale. Images and videos shared by affected users appear to show damage in a similar area of the phone’s internal display, particularly around the hinge.
According to the reports, some affected screens developed unusual bright lines running across the right side of the display, while others appeared to have cracked along the hinge area.
One iPhone Duo owner in Australia said the device developed a problem after approximately six hours of use and fewer than 20 opening cycles.
The user explained that they felt something beneath the screen around the internal hinge while opening the phone. As they continued unfolding it, they heard a cracking sound and discovered that the screen had broken along the hinge.
The owner also claimed there were no visible marks or signs of external damage on either the inner screen’s surface or the outside of the hinge to suggest that an object had become trapped in the mechanism.
The user said an Apple Store replaced the damaged device with a brand-new unit immediately.
Other Reddit posts have also featured photographs and videos that appear to show similar display problems, although the reports do not establish how widespread the issue is or whether all the affected devices experienced the same underlying fault.
Apple had not immediately responded to a request for comment at the time of the report.
It remains unclear whether the incidents are isolated cases, a manufacturing defect, or a problem related to the phone’s folding mechanism. Further investigation would be needed to determine the cause of the reported failures.
The reports are likely to attract attention because the hinge and flexible internal display are among the most technically challenging components of foldable smartphones. Their ability to withstand repeated opening and closing is a major consideration for consumers purchasing devices in this category.
However, the early reports alone do not establish that the iPhone Duo has a widespread durability problem.
The iPhone Duo’s first reported screen failures could put its durability under scrutiny as more customers begin using the device.
For prospective buyers, the key questions will be whether Apple identifies a common cause, whether additional cases emerge, and how the company handles warranty claims and replacements.
Until Apple provides further information or more comprehensive testing becomes available, the full extent of the reported problem remains uncertain.
