BENIN CITY: Governor Monday Okpebholo has criticised the ongoing strike involving the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC), accusing the electricity firm of playing politics with the lives and welfare of residents.
The governor expressed his displeasure over the industrial action and its impact on electricity consumers across Edo State, stressing that residents should not be made to bear the consequences of the dispute.
In reaction to the development, Okpebholo disclosed that he was heading to Abuja to meet with the chairman of the electricity company in a bid to address the situation.
The planned meeting, according to the governor’s remarks, is aimed at engaging the company’s leadership over the ongoing crisis and finding a way forward for affected residents.
The BEDC strike has drawn attention to the concerns of electricity consumers, particularly the disruption of services and the wider implications for households, businesses and economic activities in the state.
Okpebholo’s intervention signals the state government’s concern over the dispute and its effects on residents.
