A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has claimed that former President Goodluck Jonathan and his wife, Patience Jonathan, forced him out of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Amaechi made the allegation during an interview on Channels Television, stating that the former first family took over the PDP’s political structure in Rivers State and sidelined him.
According to him, his troubles within the party began during his tenure as Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, when he disagreed with certain policies of the Jonathan administration.
I was literally chased out of the PDP by former President Goodluck Jonathan and his wife. They took over the political structure in Rivers State and chased me out, he said.
Amaechi added that similar political pressures have persisted in his career, claiming that opposing dominant political forces often leads to attempts to render him irrelevant.
He further disclosed that he has not hesitated to express disagreement with political leaders, including President Bola Tinubu, noting that he openly told him he did not agree with him shortly after the APC presidential primaries.
Amaechi’s remarks highlight ongoing tensions and shifting alliances within Nigeria’s political landscape, particularly as parties and key figures begin positioning ahead of the 2027 general elections.
