Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola has been adopted as the consensus governorship candidate of the All-Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State ahead of the February 6, 2027 election.
Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, secured the endorsement during a high-level caucus meeting of party leaders held at the APC secretariat in Abeokuta. The decision reflects a broader agreement among stakeholders to shift power to Ogun West Senatorial District.
Governor Dapo Abiodun announced the consensus, describing it as a milestone that aligns with the longstanding demand for zoning and political inclusion for Ogun West.
The adoption followed the voluntary withdrawal of other aspirants from the district, including Reps members Gboyega Isiaka and Abiodun Akinlade, who stepped down in support of Adeola.
If elected, Adeola would become the first governor produced from the Yewa Division since Nigeria’s Second Republic.
Accepting the nomination, Adeola pledged loyalty to the party and commitment to sustaining Ogun’s economic growth and industrial development.
I will not let the party and the state down. I promise to maintain unity, peace, and progress, and to keep Ogun moving forward,” he said.
The senator also emphasised inclusiveness, promising to carry all party members along regardless of political differences.
In neighbouring Lagos, momentum is building behind Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat, who is being positioned as the APC’s consensus governorship candidate.
Party leaders and stakeholders have begun mobilisation efforts across the state’s five divisions and 57 councils, holding strategy meetings in Ikeja to consolidate support.
Hamzat has also intensified consultations with key figures, including the Governance Advisory Council leader, Prince Tajudeen Olusi, as part of moves to secure broad endorsement.
In a statement shared after the meeting, Hamzat said his consultations were focused on collaboration and inclusive governance.
Speaking after the strategy session, House of Representatives member James Faleke outlined key qualities expected of the next Lagos governor, citing loyalty, experience, accessibility, and strong grassroots appeal.
Faleke endorsed Hamzat, describing him as the most suitable candidate to sustain Lagos’ development trajectory. He understands governance, has served at different levels, and maintains strong relationships across the political spectrum,” Faleke said.
He added that the party is committed to mobilising voters in support of President Bola Tinubu while also ensuring continuity in Lagos State leadership.
