2027 Election: Kwankwaso Finally Speaks on Alleged Plan to Dump Obi, NDC

KANO: The Kwankwasiyya Movement has dismissed reports suggesting that its leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, is planning to leave the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The movement described the reports as baseless and insisted that neither Kwankwaso nor his supporters had threatened to abandon the party over recent developments involving candidate substitutions.

Reacting to the claims, the spokesperson of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Habibu Sale Mohammed, said the former Kano State governor considers the reports nothing more than rumours.

Mohammed maintained that there was no disagreement between Kwankwaso and the leadership of the NDC over the selection of candidates.

The Kwankwasiyya Movement, and neither its leader, is complaining,he said.

According to him, speculation about a possible withdrawal from the party surfaced after some candidates believed to be aligned with the movement were replaced. However, he stressed that such claims had no basis.

The spokesperson explained that the NDC conducted its primaries on May 29 in accordance with the Electoral Act and the guidelines issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

He noted that party stakeholders had earlier agreed to adopt a consensus arrangement where necessary, after which candidates were ratified and submitted without any internal disputes.

Mohammed further disclosed that Senator Kwankwaso had not expressed any dissatisfaction with the decisions taken by the party leadership.

He added that the NDC remains focused on strengthening unity within its ranks as political activities ahead of the 2027 elections begin to gather momentum.

The clarification comes amid growing speculation over the future of the opposition coalition and reports linking Kwankwaso to a possible alliance with former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi.

However, the latest statement from the Kwankwasiyya Movement suggests that the former presidential candidate remains committed to the NDC and has no plans to leave the part
