ABUJA: The National Agency For The Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has announced the rescue of 19 girls in Abuja, all believed to have been impregnated by the same man.
Speaking on Friday during a visit to the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) headquarters in Abuja, NAPTIP Director-General Binta Bello revealed the development during a meeting with NiDCOM Chairperson Abike Dabiri-Erewa.
Bello appreciated NiDCOM’s ongoing support, particularly in the recent repatriation of 231 young Nigerians from Ghana.
emphasized that addressing human trafficking demands coordinated efforts from government agencies and stakeholders and increased public awareness at all levels.

Just last week, we rescued 19 girls, each pregnant by one individual, from an estate in Abuja. We also received nine girls from Côte d’Ivoire.
Sadly, there are many more disturbing stories,” Bello stated.
She praised NiDCOM for its active engagement with the Nigerian diaspora and reaffirmed NAPTIP’s commitment to strengthening the collaboration between both organizations to safeguard the rights and dignity of Nigerians.
In response, Dabiri-Erewa underscored the need for a comprehensive, all-inclusive strategy to combat human trafficking in Nigeria. While acknowledging the progress made, she stressed that much more remains to be done.
She advocated for publicly identifying traffickers as a deterrent to others and emphasized the importance of inter-agency cooperation, including with NAPTIP, NiDCOM, the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), and other relevant bodies.
We remain committed to rescuing these vulnerable young individuals and promoting safe and legal migration pathways, she added.
