₦13.7bn Ghost Workers Allegation: Osun APC Urges EFCC to Freeze Accounts, Demands Urgent Probe

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to immediately freeze accounts allegedly linked to a reported ₦13.7 billion ghost workers payroll scheme in the state.

The demand was made by the Diaspora Committee of the Osun APC Governorship Campaign Council in a statement issued on Friday in Osogbo by its Secretary, Tunmise Ajiboye.

The committee alleged that a consultant engaged by the state government in 2023 to audit the workforce uncovered irregular salary payments estimated at about ₦13.7 billion annually.

According to the group, the findings reportedly revealed cases where multiple salaries were paid into single bank accounts, raising concerns of systemic payroll fraud.

It further claimed that the alleged scheme involved “ghost workers” and questionable salary disbursements that require urgent investigation by anti-graft agencies.

The APC committee urged the EFCC and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to act swiftly to prevent possible diversion of public funds.

It also called for the immediate freezing of any accounts suspected to be connected to the alleged fraud, insisting that the funds may be at risk of being diverted for political activities ahead of the August 15, 2026 governorship election in the state.

In addition, the group appealed to foreign missions, including those of the United States, United Kingdom, and Canada, to impose visa restrictions on individuals allegedly linked to the matter pending the outcome of investigations.

The APC Diaspora Committee maintained that such measures would help strengthen accountability and discourage misuse of public funds.

The committee also reviewed the performance of the current administration, stating that it had assessed various projects across the state while continuing to mobilise support for its governorship candidate ahead of the forthcoming election.

It expressed confidence in the APC’s chances in the governorship poll and urged Osun indigenes in the diaspora to invest in the state to support economic growth and reduce unemployment.

The allegations come amid rising political tension in Osun State as parties intensify preparations ahead of the 2026 governorship election.

However, government officials and agencies mentioned in the allegations have yet to publicly respond to the claims at the time of filing this report.
