Troops of the Joint Task Force North-East Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) have successfully repelled an attempted attack by Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists in Borno State, dealing heavy losses to the insurgents during a coordinated counter-offensive.
Security sources disclosed on Friday that the failed attack occurred in the early hours of June 19, when terrorists launched simultaneous assaults on military positions around Dutsen Kura and the Chara Road axis in Buratai, Biu Local Government Area.
The area serves as a strategic route connecting Biu in Borno State with Buni Yadi and Damaturu in neighbouring Yobe State and has frequently come under threat from insurgent activities.
According to the source, troops swiftly responded after detecting the attempted incursion, engaging the terrorists with superior firepower in a joint ground and air operation.
The Nigerian Air Force provided intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance support, alongside precision air strikes that complemented the efforts of ground troops. The combined operation disrupted the terrorists’ advance and forced them to retreat.
The prompt and effective employment of air and ground assets proved decisive. The terrorists suffered significant losses in personnel and equipment, while troops recorded no casualties,” the source said.
Military authorities noted that the sustained operational tempo of Operation Hadin Kai has continued to restrict the movement and activities of insurgents across the North-East theatre.
Residents of communities in the region were urged to continue providing timely and credible intelligence to security agencies to support ongoing efforts aimed at eliminating terrorist threats.
The military also reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining pressure on Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters and restoring lasting peace and security to affected communities.
Operation Hadin Kai has intensified offensives against insurgent groups in recent months as part of broader efforts to degrade their capabilities and prevent further attacks on civilian and military targets in the North-East.
Despite repeated attempts by terrorists to regain lost territories and disrupt security operations, military authorities insist that troops remain determined to maintain dominance and protect communities from further violence.
