Wike Reveals How PDP Can Survive Ahead of 2027 Elections

ABUJA: Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has said the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) can only survive if it strictly follows its constitution and Nigeria’s 1999 Constitution.

Wike made this known in Abuja on Monday during a meeting with former governors Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), Samuel Ortom (Benue), and Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia).

The gathering also included Senator Samuel Anyanwu, ex-Senate Minority Leader Philip Aduda, current and former lawmakers, and PDP executives.

He described the visitors as PDP stakeholders dedicated to the party’s stability and future, stating that the party’s current crisis could have been avoided if its leadership had heeded the advice of the G5 Governors.

According to Wike, the G5’s push for presidential zoning helped maintain national balance, and ignoring their warnings led to the party’s decline.

He questioned the treatment of Senator Anyanwu, who was blocked from returning as PDP National Secretary after losing the Imo governorship race, calling it political double standards.

All of you here are committed to the survival of our party not just through media statements, but with real action across party levels, Wike said.

This country is stable today because of the actions taken by the G5 Governors. Love or hate us, we prevented national crisis through decisive action.

We don’t care who benefited from our decisions; what mattered was doing the right thing, and we stand by it.

Wike continued: Had the party listened, we wouldn’t be in this state. We’ll continue insisting that both the PDP Constitution and Nigeria’s Constitution be respected.”
