Was Alex Ekubo’s Wife Pregnant? Viral Claim at Late Nollywood Star’s Burial Sparks Reactions

A surprising claim made during the final burial of late Nollywood actor Alex Ekubo has stirred excitement and debate among fans, with many wondering whether the actor’s widow is expecting his child.

The speculation emerged on Thursday, June 18, during the burial ceremony held in Arochukwu, Abia State, when Alex Ekubo’s remains made a brief stop at the palace of the Eze Aro of Arochukwu.

During remarks delivered by a man some attendees initially believed to be the traditional ruler, prayers were offered for the continuation of the actor’s lineage. He also disclosed that there were reports suggesting that Ekubo’s wife, Anwuli, was pregnant and expressed hope that the unborn child would surpass the late actor’s achievements.

However, actress Victoria Inyama later clarified on Instagram that the speaker was not the Eze Aro himself but his representative.

The comments quickly went viral, sparking mixed reactions across social media. While many fans described the possibility as a touching final gift from the late actor, others questioned why such sensitive information was shared publicly.

Some argued that Alex Ekubo, known for keeping his private life away from the spotlight, would have preferred such news to remain confidential.

Amid the emotional atmosphere of the burial, the actor’s widow, Anwuli Ekubo, was seen quietly observing proceedings. Dressed in white and wearing sunglasses and a face mask, she appeared visibly grief-stricken, drawing sympathy from mourners who described the ceremony as both solemn and emotional.

Speaking at the event, Abia State Governor Alex Otti, represented by his Chief of Staff, Caleb Ajagba, described Ekubo’s death as a huge loss to Abia State, the Nigerian film industry and his millions of admirers around the world.

“The news of Alex’s passing came as a profound shock. Today, we mourn not just an actor, brother and friend, but a creative force, a cultural ambassador and a proud son of Arochukwu whose talent brought honour to Abia State and Nigeria,” he said.

Delivering a sermon at the funeral service, the lead pastor of Streams of Joy International, Umuahia, Pastor Eno Eze, urged mourners to focus on building lasting legacies, stressing that the impact of a person’s life matters more than its length.

Meanwhile, actress and filmmaker Omoni Oboli announced that proceeds from The First Lady, the first movie she produced with Alex Ekubo, would be donated to the actor’s family. While many applauded the gesture, others criticised the timing of the announcement, describing it as insensitive.

Several celebrities attended the burial, including Ayo Makun, Obi Cubana, Omoni Oboli, Ini Edo, Pretty Mike, Stan Nze, Nons Miraj, IK Ogbonna and Yomi Casual.

Alex Ekubo, who died on May 11, 2026, was laid to rest after a series of funeral events that began with a service of songs in Lagos and continued with a wake in his hometown before the final interment in Arochukwu.
