KATSINA: Fresh details have emerged surrounding the fate of retired Major General Abubakar Rabe, who was abducted by armed bandits in Katsina State, with reports indicating that the former military officer has died while in captivity.
According to Daily Trust, the retired major general was kidnapped exactly two weeks ago while travelling to Katsina alongside his wife, Hajiya Amina Abubakar, and their driver, Abdullahi Sa’idu.
The incident occurred on Saturday, May 30, when their vehicle was ambushed by gunmen along the Marabar Musawa–Kafinsoli Road in Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State.
While his wife and driver were also seized during the attack, reports now suggest that the retired army general may have lost his life during the period of captivity, though authorities are yet to issue a comprehensive official statement on the circumstances surrounding his reported death.
The development has once again highlighted growing concerns over insecurity and the activities of armed bandits in Nigeria’s North-West region, where kidnappings and attacks have continued despite ongoing security operations.
The tragic news has sparked grief and renewed calls for stronger measures to tackle banditry and protect citizens travelling on vulnerable highways across the country.
More details are expected as security agencies and family members provide further updates.
