Tinubu’s Aide Sunday Asefon Accused of Threatening Estranged Wife After Child Abuse Petition

Fresh allegations of threats and intimidation have emerged against Sunday Adedayo Asefon, Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Student Engagement, following a police petition accusing him of physically assaulting his 10-year-old daughter.

According to a report by SaharaReporters published on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, sources close to the family alleged that Asefon had threatened his estranged wife, Damilola Tunmise Asefon, warning her against returning to their family residence after she petitioned the Ekiti State Commissioner of Police over the alleged assault.

The petition reportedly called for an investigation and prosecution of the presidential aide over an incident said to have occurred on Saturday, October 31, at the family’s residence in the Odo-Ado area of Ado-Ekiti.

Sources cited in the report claimed that the alleged assault left the 10-year-old girl bleeding from her ears and head. Her identity has been withheld to protect her privacy.

One source reportedly told SaharaReporters that Asefon had been threatening his estranged wife over the petition, while another alleged that members of his family had held meetings and threatened to deal with Damilola wherever they encountered her.

The allegations have raised fresh concerns about the safety of the woman and her children as the family dispute becomes entangled in a police investigation.

The report further alleged that members of Asefon’s family had accused Damilola of leaking the police petition to SaharaReporters and attempting to damage her husband’s political career.

However, SaharaReporters stated that it obtained the petition through police sources rather than from Damilola.

According to the publication, some members of the family allegedly claimed that the presidential aide was merely disciplining his daughter over alleged misconduct on TikTok.

They reportedly argued that Asefon had the right to discipline the child, pointing to his payment of her school fees and an alleged ₦1 million birthday gift as evidence of his financial support.

The family members were also said to have questioned why Damilola continued using a vehicle bearing a National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) number plate, allegedly provided through her husband.

A source quoted in the report said some relatives feared that if Asefon were arrested and removed from office, the financial benefits available to the children could be affected.

These claims and allegations have not been independently verified.

The latest development follows an earlier report by SaharaReporters alleging that Asefon physically assaulted his daughter on October 31.

The petition was reportedly submitted by the law firm A. J. Oguntuase & Co. on behalf of Damilola and the minor to the Ekiti State Commissioner of Police.

According to the legal document, Asefon allegedly arrived at the family residence without prior notice while Damilola was washing the children’s clothes behind the house and attacked the girl.

The lawyers alleged that the incident resulted in injuries to the child’s head and ear, leaving her bleeding.

The report stated that the girl was subsequently taken to the Odo-Ado Police Division and the Police Clinic in Ado-Ekiti for medical attention.

In the petition, the lawyers described the alleged incident as child abuse, gender-based violence and a violation of the minor’s fundamental human rights.

They also alleged that the incident was not isolated, claiming that Asefon had previously subjected his wife and children to physical violence.

The petition further alleged that Damilola had sustained serious injuries during an earlier incident and required hospital treatment after an alleged attack by her husband.

The lawyers reportedly called on the police commissioner to urgently investigate the allegations and ensure the protection of their clients.

The petition also provided details about the couple’s marital situation, stating that although they remained legally married, they had been living separately for several years.

According to the document, Asefon instituted divorce proceedings on August 19, 2026, before the Ekiti State High Court in Ido-Ekiti, with the case reportedly still pending.

The lawyers also alleged that the presidential aide had traditionally married another woman, identified as Temilouwa Adedoyin Asefon, between 2023 and 2024, while his marriage to Damilola remained legally subsisting.

Additionally, the petition accused Asefon of neglecting his children and allegedly failing to provide assistance when their 10-year-old daughter required specialised medical attention at Afe Babalola University Teaching Hospital over an eye condition affecting her vision.

These claims remain allegations contained in the petition.

The lawyers reportedly expressed concern that Damilola and her daughter could face further attacks from Asefon and individuals allegedly acting with him.

They asked the police to intervene, investigate the complaints and prosecute anyone found culpable.

The petition also raised concerns about alleged threats to their clients’ lives, reputation, businesses and properties, urging the authorities to provide necessary protection.

Meanwhile, sources familiar with the complaint alleged that officers attached to the Ekiti State Police Command’s Criminal Investigation Department had attempted to frustrate the investigation.

They claimed that police officers initially failed to take decisive action despite the complaint and the injuries reportedly sustained by the child.

According to the sources, officers allegedly told the family’s lawyer that Asefon had already travelled from Ekiti State to Abuja for an official assignment.

The allegations of police interference have not been independently established.

The child abuse allegations have emerged amid a separate controversy involving the October 30 attack on human rights activist and African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, and members of his team in Ado-Ekiti.

Sowore has accused Asefon of being among individuals allegedly involved in planning the attack, which reportedly occurred shortly after the activist attended an interview at MIDAS FM 90.5 in Ado-Ekiti.

Sources cited by Reporters alleged that Asefon travelled to Ekiti State for an event organised by the City Boy Movement, a political group campaigning for President Tinubu’s 2027 re-election.

The sources further alleged that a meeting to plan the attack took place at Tawakalitu Restaurant in the Dalimore area of Ado-Ekiti.

Sowore also identified Asefon’s former bodyguard, Ayodeji Akintade Ifeoluwa, popularly known as AK, as one of the alleged attackers.

The former bodyguard was reportedly captured in video footage wearing a green polo shirt and wielding a machete during the incident.

Sowore has separately accused Asefon and other individuals of involvement in an alleged assassination plot against him. These accusations have not been independently established.

The latest allegations have intensified calls for a thorough investigation, particularly given the seriousness of the claims involving a minor and the reported threats against her mother.

When SaharaReporters previously contacted Asefon regarding its earlier report, he reportedly responded without directly addressing the child abuse allegations, instead claiming that Sowore was targeting him.

As of the publication of the SaharaReporters report on November 3, 2026, the allegations remained unproven, and no judicial determination of Asefon’s culpability had been established.

The police investigation and any response from the presidential aide will be important in determining the facts surrounding the allegations.

RapidoSpace News upholds the principle that allegations of child abuse and intimidation must be investigated thoroughly, while every accused person is entitled to due process and the presumption of innocence.
