Three Seminarians Remain in Captivity as Edo Police Vow Safe Release

BENIN CITY: Police spokesperson, CSP Moses Joel Yamu, in a statement on Sunday, revealed that the Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, is personally coordinating the ongoing rescue mission.

He confirmed that specialised units, including the Anti-Kidnapping Squad, have been deployed, while a Tactical Division has been newly established in Ivieukwa community to strengthen security and improve intelligence gathering.

According to Yamu, the command is working closely with sister security agencies and deploying advanced intelligence strategies to ensure the safe return of the seminarians.

Reacting to a viral video showing the abducted students in captivity, he appealed for calm and urged the public to trust the security efforts underway

We want to reassure the diocese, parents, and members of the public that the command is working tirelessly to rescue the seminarians unharmed, Yamu said.

The spokesperson further extended condolences to the family of the slain NSCDC officer, commending them for their patience and cooperation since the unfortunate incident.

He stressed that the Edo State Police Command remains resolute in its constitutional mandate to protect lives and property,

assuring that regular updates will be made available as progress is achieved in the rescue operation.
