ASABA: Team Delta has emerged as the leading team at the South-South Zonal Elimination of the National Intermediate Games, securing an impressive 14 qualification spots for the national championship.
Delta finished ahead of Bayelsa and Rivers, with both states securing seven qualification spots each.
The Delta contingent earned qualification across several sporting disciplines, including basketball, beach volleyball, cricket, football, handball, hockey, rugby and volleyball.
The impressive performance highlights the depth of sporting talent across Delta State and the growing emphasis on grassroots sports development under the administration of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
The Delta State Sports Commission, led by its Chairman, Hon. Onoriode Oborevwori, has continued to focus on identifying young talents and providing opportunities for them to develop and compete at higher levels.
With the South-South qualifiers now behind them, Team Delta will turn its attention to the National Intermediate Games, where its athletes will battle for medals and podium finishes.
The state will be hoping to build on its dominant regional performance and translate the qualification success into another strong showing on the national stage.
