ABEOKUTA: In a thrilling display of athletic excellence and team spirit, Team Delta has been declared the overall winner of the 22nd National Sports Festival, which concluded recently in Ogun State.
The festival, known this year as the Gateway Games 2024, brought together the best of Nigeria’s sporting talent in what has been described as one of the most competitive editions in recent years.
Officially flagged off by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on May 18, the event featured athletes from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, competing across a wide range of sports.
The festival not only celebrated physical prowess but also served as a platform for national unity and youth development.
Team Delta maintained a commanding lead throughout the competition, earning top spots in athletics, swimming, wrestling, and other key events, securing their reputation as a dominant force in Nigerian sports.
The Ogun State government, hosting the festival for the first time in over a decade, received praise for its well-organized venues, hospitality, and commitment to the success of the Games.
