LAFIA: Several members of the All-Progressives Congress (APC) from Benue State have reportedly sustained serious injuries after a bus conveying them to a party rally in Lafia, Nasarawa State, was involved in a head-on collision with another vehicle.
The accident occurred on Saturday in Lafia, a few kilometres from the venue of the political rally.
Although the exact number of injured delegates had not been confirmed as of the time of filing this report, those affected were reportedly evacuated to hospitals in Lafia for medical attention.
The incident was confirmed by Dan-Morgan Ihomun, Publicity Secretary of the Austin Agada faction of the APC in Benue State, who said no lives were lost in the collision.
“The accident happened in Lafia and it involved two vehicles. But there was no loss of life. Those who sustained injuries have been rushed to the hospital,” Ihomun said.
The incident has renewed attention to road safety concerns involving political supporters and party delegates travelling long distances to attend rallies and other political gatherings.
Saturday’s crash comes months after another accident involving APC delegates from Benue State travelling to Lafia for a party event.
On March 25, 2026, three delegates from Ogbadibo Local Government Area of Benue State died in a road accident while travelling from Makurdi to Lafia for the APC North-Central Zonal Congress.
About 10 other delegates reportedly sustained injuries in that earlier incident.
The latest crash has once again highlighted the risks faced by party members travelling to political events, particularly when large numbers of supporters are transported by road.
As of the time of filing this report, the exact number of delegates injured in Saturday’s accident had yet to be established. No deaths were reported in the latest incident, according to the APC faction’s publicity secretary.
