Police Ban Drones, Fireworks Ahead of Tinubu’s Visit to Akwa Ibom

UYO: The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has announced restrictions on the use of drones, fireworks and other potentially disruptive devices ahead of President Bola Tinubu’s one-day working visit to the state on Friday, November 6, 2026.

The police said the measures were introduced to maintain public order, prevent security breaches and ensure the safety of residents and visitors during the President’s visit.

The State Commissioner of Police, Baba Azare, announced the restrictions during a news conference in Uyo on Thursday, November 5.

According to Azare, the ban covers drones, fireworks and other devices capable of causing panic or disrupting public activities during the presidential visit.

Tinubu is expected to inaugurate several projects completed by the administration of Governor Umo Eno and attend an All Progressives Congress (APC) rally as political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The police commissioner advised residents to avoid roads designated for the presidential convoy, warning that access to some major routes would be restricted to facilitate the movement of the President and his security team.

The affected roads include Airport Road, Iron Road and Ring Road III, which lead towards the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.

Azare also appealed to political parties planning activities in the state on Friday to consider rescheduling their programmes to avoid possible clashes and maintain public order.

He warned individuals and groups against any attempt to disrupt the presidential visit, stressing that the command was prepared to respond to security threats.

During the visit, President Tinubu is scheduled to inaugurate a number of projects executed by the Akwa Ibom State Government.

The projects listed for inauguration include the new terminal building at Victor Attah International Airport, the Aviation Village, the Ring Road III Extension and Arise Resort Park in Uyo.

The President’s visit is expected to attract government officials, political leaders, party supporters and other dignitaries to the state.

The police command urged residents to cooperate with security personnel, comply with movement restrictions and adhere to the safety guidelines announced ahead of the visit.

The command said the measures were intended to ensure that the presidential engagement and scheduled activities proceed peacefully.
