LAGOS: Popular Nigerian TikTok star Peller has expressed disappointment after discovering that some of the dollars sprayed on him during his traditional wedding ceremony to fellow content creator Jarvis were allegedly fake.
The social media personality made the revelation in a viral video, recounting how he initially believed he had received a large amount of money from guests before realizing that some of the foreign currency was counterfeit.
According to Peller, he was excited after the wedding and felt like a millionaire as he admired the money he received. However, his excitement quickly turned into disappointment when he attempted to exchange the dollars and allegedly discovered that they were fake.
Despite the incident, the TikTok star clarified that many guests genuinely supported him by spraying authentic Nigerian naira notes. He said he later visited a bank, where the naira was confirmed to be genuine, adding that he remembered and appreciated those who gave him legitimate cash gifts.
“I went to the bank, and the Nigerian money was genuine. A lot of people gave me Nigerian currency, and that is good. I know the people who gave me genuine money because I saw them when they sprayed it, Peller said.
The content creator explained that he had remained silent about the fake dollars for some time but eventually decided to speak out after trying unsuccessfully to exchange the foreign currency.
He admitted that he even used the money to record a celebratory video after returning home because he believed he had received genuine dollars.
I got home feeling like a millionaire and even made a video with the money. Later, when I went to change the dollars, I discovered they were fake. Since then, I have been speechless,” he stated.
Questioning the motive behind the act, Peller wondered why anyone would choose to spray counterfeit currency at a wedding instead of simply celebrating the couple without pretending to give money.
Is it by force to spray money? he asked.
The incident has sparked conversations on social media, with many Nigerians condemning the alleged use of fake currency at celebrations. Others urged guests to avoid unnecessary displays of wealth and instead offer genuine support to newlyweds.
