LAGOS: Award-winning Afrobeats superstar Davido has boldly declared that he can defeat any opponent in a Nigerian election if the country’s electoral process is free, fair, and transparent.
The singer made the statement during a live session with popular comedian and content creator Carter Efe, where the duo discussed politics, leadership, and the possibility of Davido contesting for public office in the future.
Responding to a question about whether he would consider running for governor, Davido said he currently has no interest in politics because he lacks confidence in Nigeria’s electoral system.
According to the music star, he believes election outcomes are often manipulated, making it difficult for the true wishes of voters to prevail. He stressed that he would rather remain focused on his thriving music career than participate in an electoral process he does not trust.
Davido maintained that he would only consider seeking political office when Nigeria conducts elections that are transparent and allow every vote to count.
The singer confidently stated that no politician would be able to defeat him if Nigerians were allowed to freely choose their leaders without interference.
When Carter Efe jokingly suggested that he should contest for the presidency, Davido reiterated his confidence, insisting that he would emerge victorious in any genuinely free and fair election.
Speaking further, the award-winning artiste expressed concern over what he described as a lack of transparency in Nigeria’s electoral process, alleging that election results are sometimes predetermined instead of reflecting the actual votes cast by citizens.
Davido also revealed that he is closely monitoring political developments ahead of the forthcoming governorship election in Osun State, saying he is eager to see how the exercise will be conducted.
He said:
Where in Nigeria do they allow elections to speak for themselves? I don’t have time for all that. I’m not someone you can cheat in an election and expect me to go home quietly. If you cheat me, I will do something about it.
I’ll just continue doing my music until there’s transparency. Then I can think about politics because nobody can beat me in any election, ever.
if there’s a free and fair election and everybody in Nigeria votes, I’ll win.
But because of the system, there’s no transparency; they write results. We are waiting to see what they will do in Osun.
Davido’s remarks have sparked fresh conversations on social media, with many fans debating whether the award-winning singer could successfully transition from entertainment to politics if Nigeria’s electoral process gains greater public confidence.
