Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Timi Frank, has called on the Senate to suspend Francis Fadahunsi, senator representing Osun East, over comments attributed to him ahead of the August 15 governorship election in the state.
Frank also urged security agencies to investigate the senator, arguing that political statements capable of inciting violence should not be ignored, regardless of the status of the person involved.
Fadahunsi came under criticism after a video circulated on social media in which he appeared to direct his supporters to kill members of the Accord Party.
The senator subsequently clarified that the statement was metaphorical, explaining that he meant his supporters should defeat the Accord Party through their votes rather than resort to violence.
Following the controversy, the Osun State Police Command invited Fadahunsi to appear before the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Osogbo to explain the circumstances surrounding the remarks.
Reacting to the controversy in a statement on Wednesday, Frank described Fadahunsi’s comments as reckless and dangerous, particularly given the tense political atmosphere surrounding the election.
He called on security agencies to act swiftly and investigate the senator despite his position as a serving member of the National Assembly.
Frank also challenged the Senate to take disciplinary action against Fadahunsi, saying the upper chamber should not remain silent when one of its members is accused of making remarks capable of threatening public peace.
The Senate must immediately suspend such a senator who can make such unguarded statements. We want to see action taken as an example to every person involved in election violence,” Frank said.
According to him, allowing politically inflammatory comments to go unchecked could undermine public confidence in the electoral process and encourage supporters of political parties to engage in violence.
Frank further questioned what he described as inconsistent responses to controversial political statements, alleging that opposition figures would have faced stronger consequences if similar comments had come from their camp.
He referenced former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai while arguing that political affiliation should not determine how security agencies respond to statements that could threaten electoral peace.
Frank said the government and the ruling APC should demonstrate that the law applies equally to all political actors.
He also appealed to the international community to pay close attention to developments surrounding the Osun governorship election.
As political parties intensify their campaigns ahead of Saturday’s election, Frank urged voters in Osun State not to be intimidated by threats or inflammatory rhetoric.
He encouraged eligible voters to turn out peacefully, cast their ballots and ensure that their votes are protected throughout the electoral process.
“Osun election must not be rigged. The will of the people must count in Osun, he said.
The former APC official stressed that political disagreements should be resolved through democratic processes rather than violence, urging candidates and their supporters to respect the outcome of a credible election.
The Osun governorship election is scheduled for Saturday, August 15, 2026, with security agencies already deploying additional personnel and strengthening arrangements across the state to prevent violence and other electoral offences.
