NLC, FCTA Workers Storm Court, Demand Wike’s Removal

ABUJA: Workers of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), backed by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), on Monday stormed the National Industrial Court in Abuja, demanding the removal of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

The protest is part of an ongoing total and indefinite strike by FCTA workers over unresolved labour-related issues, including unpaid promotion arrears and poor working conditions.

The demonstration followed a directive from the NLC, which threw its weight behind the industrial action, insisting that the strike was justified due to what it described as persistent violations of workers’ rights by the FCTA management and its political leadership.

Armed with placards, the protesting workers chanted slogans and displayed messages such as Wike must go! Abuja no be Rivers, pay promotion arrears, enough is enough and No working tools.

The workers accused the FCTA leadership of failing to address long-standing grievances despite repeated engagements and warnings from organized labour.

The strike has continued to disrupt activities within the nation’s capital, with labour unions insisting that the action will remain in force until their demands are fully met.

Meanwhile, the legal battle between the FCTA and the striking workers is expected to come up for definite hearing at the National Industrial Court on January 26.
